How to Join Threads of Love

The following information should provide you with the necessary steps to start a Threads of Love chapter in your area. We have a few requirements.....
We have a few requirements...
1. Love the Lord and glorify Him in all that you do.
2. Form a group of sewers willing to meet regularly and furnish thread and
love. Your group should meet regularly; although not necessarily monthly. We like for each chapter to do what works for them. Some chapters meet each month and work as a group. Others meet each month to return finished items and pick up supplies to sew at home. There is one chapter that meets each week. We like for each group of ladies to handle their chapter in the way that works for that group.
3. Establish a contact person at a hospital to accept the gowns. (The hospital Chaplain is a good one to start with, or the hospital social worker if there is no Chaplain)
4. Register as a chapter with us, so that we may send you needed information for your chapter, the prayers, etc.
5. Place a Threads of Love label on every item you donate. Labels are ordered from the Threads of Love headquarters. Prices and order forms are available from the website. Labels are necessary so people know where the donations came from.
6. Make regular donations to your registered hospital (for some, this is every month; for others it is quarterly or even twice yearly)
7. Answer any inquiries from the website...when people ask for information on your chapter, they will email you. You must answer these emails in a prompt manner, so that people who want to be involved with your chapter know how to get in touch with you.
8. Stay in regular contact with the headquarters (Sissy Davis, Director and/or Courtney McPherson, Assistant Director). We send out periodic emails and letters asking for information. If we don't receive any response back from you, we have no way of knowing if you are active or not.
9. Threads of Love prayers MUST be included with each donation. Our mission is not to dress babies, but to share the love of Christ. If the hospital won't allow you to include prayers, they don't get your donations.
10. Send a tally of items donated - monthly or quarterly - via email or US mail to the headquarters, even if your donation tally is zero. This lets us know that you are active.
A day gown, blanket, cap and a prayer is given to mothers while their babies are in the NICU. We hope to show them that our Lord is faithful and with them through this fearful and painful time. We want them to be able to see their little ones dressed in clothes, and doing this enables parents see their baby and not all of the technology. The day gowns are just a small part of Threads of Love. The public seems to have a problem with talking about the grieving families whose little angels don’t live.
Through this project we have learned that the loss of an infant leaves a mother and her family in need of being nurtured. It is important to put a closure to the loss. We furnish our local hospitals with burial gowns, bonnets, blankets and a prayer to give to the family. Our feeling is that maybe the little outfits help to soften their loss in some small way and in a quiet way says, "Someone cares about your loss". Most mothers will keep the bonnet or blanket as a reminder of their little one.
Together we can reach and bind a lot of broken hearts. However, it will take all of us working as a group. Signing up as a chapter lets us know who is working with the same goal in mind. Each chapter works independently, but with the same goals in sight, serving as one ministry. Each chapter is responsible for their own funds. The Baton Rouge chapter acts as a clearinghouse for networking the different chapters, and for sharing news, patterns and ideas that other chapters have developed and are willing to share. As a clearing house we publish the newsletter, keep Threads of Love labels on hand for you to purchase at our cost and keep you posted about any good bargains that we may come across. At this time there are no plans for dues; however later we may need to ask for a couple of dollars a year to help with the cost of the newsletter. Becoming a chapter simply means registering with us so we know where each group is located and who’s doing this ministry.
When signing on as a chapter you will be asked to sign an agreement to the following terms:
As a chapter of Threads of Love, we will use the name of Threads of Love in activities intended to reflect the love of God in the providing of garments, blankets, and other items for the comfort , care and remembrance, of infants. All items shall be new and will be made with new fabric at all times. No items will be sold at cost or for a profit. We will always glorify the Lord in all that we do.
This is a ministry that belongs to our Lord and to all of us; together we can make it work!
Please note that we must have an original, signed copy of the chapter application form for our files. Please click here to download an application, or you can contact us at info@threadsoflove.org and ask for a form to be mailed, emailed or faxed to you.
We'd love to have you join us!
