INFANT INTERNMENT GOWN

This is a unisex gown open at center back. The pattern includes 3 sizes based on the weight of the infant: Size A (1-3 pounds), Size B (3-5 pounds) and Size C (6-9 pounds). We have found that the hospitals do not really need of the smallest size.

Fabric suggestions: Any soft, lightweight cotton or cotton blend fabric such as batiste.

Fabric yardage: One dress requires a 1/2yard of 45" wide fabric. Note: see additional yardage requirements for matching bonnet and blanket.

Notions: thread to match fabric color; 18" length of 1/8" satin ribbon for back closure, cut into two 9" sections. Lace edging maybe substituted for sleeve bands. Purchase 12" and cut into two 6" sections.

Cutting layout:

Place pattern pieces on double-folded fabric so grainline arrow is parallel to selvage edge.. There are 5 pattern pieces: dress yoke, sleeve, sleeve band, skirt front, skin back. There are no paper patterns for the skirts. -They should be cut as rectangles according, to the dimensions below. Mark anotch 1/2" from side seam along top edge of each skirt piece for gathering range and to match with yoke.
